Voices: Mary, a teacher learning to teach every child

Mary teaches grade three in Yei. Until last year, three children with hearing impairment sat at the back of her classroom and rarely spoke. Following a BCC-supported teacher training on inclusive pedagogy, Mary redesigned her seating, learned basic sign and partnered with a teaching assistant. Today, those three children participate every day. "They were always smart," she says. "I just had to learn how to teach them."
